The September 11th Victim Compensation Fund has awarded over $18 billion to more than 77,000 victims and their families since 2011. This federally operated program provides compensation to individuals who were present at one of the crash sites, including rescue workers, clean-up crews, and residents who lived near the World Trade Center. Many of these individuals became ill after being exposed to toxic fumes, and some have since died.
